Saw this article, rebuilding New Orleans after Katrina has been
interesting me for a while. I dig reading about urban redevelopment
and renewal, cities are such an important thing to take care of…
like keeping yourself healthy.

Basically, it’s about all the Mexican immigrants moving to New
Orleans to find work. Reminds me a lot of the Richmond area of the
SF Bay Area. Apparently during WW2 a great deal of African-Americans
moved there to work in the Naval Shipyards, but after the war ended
all the white servicemen came home and displaced the Black workers.
The Black population there hasn’t ever really recovered.

From a sociological perspective, it’s very interesting to watch
events in New Orleans unfold. I really hope the Hurricane House gets
adopted – here’s a link to that.

That, in turn, is reminiscent of how San Francisco rebuilt after the
1906 Earthquake. You can still see some places around SF that have
the little Earthquake cottages in the back. It’s a great idea.

I really hope New Orleans can rise up again, I visited there in April
2003 for Jazzfest, one of the best experiences I’ve had. It’s a
special city with TONS of potential if they can get their political
house in order.
